We are very sad to share that our long-standing and valued Trustee, Richard Pertwee, died on 14th May 2025, aged 70.
Richard joined as a Trustee for one of our pre-merger charities, Bowel Disease Research Foundation (BDRF), in April 2015 and was instrumental in ensuring a successful merger. Richard was always so wise and an excellent person to seek advice from, a real friend to the charity.
He took a leading role the legal arrangements of the merger that formed Bowel Research UK and he coined our strap line ‘Let’s end bowel cancer and bowel disease’. His passion for medical research and improving the lives of people with bowel disease came across in every interaction with him.
A former Corporate Partner at Taylor Wessing LLP (an international law firm), Richard retired to pursue voluntary roles within the charitable sector. These included being a Magistrate (Adult and Youth), volunteer drug worker and then Chair of Trustees at Cranstoun (addiction services), two school governorships and mentoring through The School for Social Entrepreneurs and Founder of The Challenge Hub CIC. He was educated at Sherborne School and Worcester College, Oxford, and a Fellow of the RSA.
Richard’s presence and guidance will be sorely missed and our thoughts are with Richard’s wife, Gail, his children, grandchildren, extended family and many friends.
