C-Section, Sphincter Muscle and Incontinence
In 2005 I had a c-section with twins and after that I struggled with abdominal pain and some incontinence for years afterwards. This was diagnosed as IBS. In 2016 the incontinence got worse but this time with bleeding. I went to my GP and was referred for tests within three weeks.
After having the tests they found large haemorrhoids but still had problems afterwards so was referred to a specialist at Royal Liverpool. After lots of tests they found my sphincter muscle wasn’t working properly and I needed surgery. The specialist nurse told me it was probably due to the c-section.
I was in 2018 given an implant fitted that works with the muscle. I have had a lot of relief from the incontinence but I still get leakage. I believe this is because my tube was overlapping back in 2016 but was fixed, I believe it’s not 100% proof and it may be doing the same again.
Every day since 2016 has been hard. When I go out I have to see if there are toilets which often I need my radar key for.
I struggle with long train journeys, especially to my bowel consultant, as the train doesn’t have toilets.
When I am needing it I get to a point where I feel lightheaded, breathless and my fingers lock.
I want to help Bowel Research UK to help others.
