In our Getting to Know…section we will showcase the stories behind the work and lives of the many people involved with Bowel Research UK, from trustees and researchers to guest bloggers and patient volunteers who use their personal experiences of bowel disease to improve medical research programmes. Getting to Know… Julie Cornish

Mrs Julie Cornish is a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff. She was awarded a grant by Bowel Research UK to conduct the POLARiS study, which investigates different types of treatment for low anterior resection syndrome (LARS).

Miss Rachel Harwood is a Paediatric Surgeon at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool. She has a PhD in regenerative medicine and is now overseeing a PhD funded by Bowel Research UK.

Vicky is a volunteer fundraiser for Bowel Research UK who lives in Leigh on Sea in Essex. She became involved in with the charity after close family members sadly contracted bowel cancer and is determined to do everything she can to help others in the light of her own experience.
